Head of Engineering Maia Care
Lead Maia Care’s tech as Head of Engineering: define architecture, steer AI, and build a scalable and humane platform transforming menopause journey.
Backed by GCO Ventures and Byld, we are building Maia Care, a digital platform aiming to transform how millions of women experience menopause.
Maia brings together science, human support, and technology to offer personalized plans, access to certified professionals, and a safe, warm, and scalable digital experience. Our goal is to help every woman navigate this stage with clarity, support, and confidence, through an evidence-based proposition, personalization, and continuous accompaniment.
We have strong early validation, active acquisition campaigns, a first product version that is evolving, and the momentum of two experienced venture builders who actively support the vision and growth of the project. After the CEO joined, the next step is to strengthen the core team with someone who can turn the product and technology vision into a robust, distinctive platform built to scale.
We are looking for an entrepreneurial, strategic, and deeply hands-on person to lead Maia’s technology as Head of Engineering. You will be responsible for defining the architecture, making key stack and infrastructure decisions, bringing AI in pragmatically, and building the technical foundation on which Maia will grow over the coming years.
Responsibilities
Technology, architecture & AI
Define and lead Maia Care’s technical vision, making decisions on architecture, stack, infrastructure, integrations, and data models.
Build a secure, scalable platform ready to evolve from an initial version into a robust product.
Actively implement AI solutions both in development and in the product, identifying opportunities to incorporate models, agents, and automations that create real value for users and the business.
Evaluate technologies, tools, partners, and third-party services, contributing to decisions on budget, priorities, and resource allocation.
Ensure best practices in development, quality, performance, security, privacy, and technical maintenance.
Product & user experience
Work very closely with the CEO, product, business, and health experts to translate user needs into simple, useful, and differentiated digital solutions.
Translate product strategy into a technical roadmap, prioritizing speed, learning, and scalability.
Design and implement features that enable personalization, symptom tracking, access to experts, content, community, and digital support models.
Ensure technology reinforces Maia’s value proposition: a human, rigorous, and personalized experience for women in peri-menopause and menopause.
Incorporate data and continuous learning into the product to improve user experience, retention, and outcomes.
Execution & 0→1 building
Lead the product’s technical development with a startup mindset: focus, speed, pragmatism, and impact orientation.
Move from strategic decisions to real execution: writing code, coordinating vendors, or leading squads depending on the phase.
Manage the balance between building in-house, leveraging partners, and using external tools to maximize speed without compromising quality.
Create lightweight processes for development, documentation, deployment, and tracking that enable fast learning and technical control.
Solve complex problems with autonomy, good judgment, and the ability to operate with incomplete information.
Team, technical leadership & culture
Gradually build and lead Maia’s technical team, defining profiles, standards, and ways of working.
Collaborate with external teams, venture builders, vendors, and technology partners, ensuring focus, quality, and alignment.
Foster a culture of ownership, technical excellence, continuous learning, and collaboration across technology, product, business, and health.
Act as the company’s technical reference for the team, the Board, partners, and key stakeholders.
Requirements
Strong experience in software development, systems architecture, and building digital products in real production environments.
Experience leading technical decisions around architecture, stack, infrastructure, APIs, integrations, databases, and cloud services.
Demonstrated ability to build digital products from early stages, ideally in startups, scaleups, or 0→1 environments.
Experience or practical judgment in using AI applied to product, automation, personalization, agents, models, or developer tools.
Hands-on mindset: comfort going deep into technical detail, coding, reviewing solutions, or unblocking problems when needed.
Ability to work very closely with business and product, translating strategic goals into clear technical decisions.
Judgment to decide when to build, buy, integrate, or lean on external partners.
Sensitivity to security, privacy, data protection, and responsible handling of sensitive information.
Collaborative leadership, clear communication, and the ability to align technical and non-technical profiles.
High autonomy, adaptability, and ownership to operate in an early-stage company.
Professional Spanish and English.
Nice to have
Previous experience as Tech Lead, CPO, Head of Engineering, CTO, Senior Full Stack Engineer, or a similar role in digital startups.
Experience in digital health, wellness, femtech, marketplaces, communities, B2C/B2B2C platforms, or subscription models.
Knowledge of regulation, data privacy, compliance, or security standards applicable to digital health products.
Experience integrating generative AI solutions, conversational assistants, recommendation engines, automations, or data-driven products.
Experience managing technology vendors or external development teams.
Genuine interest in women’s health, menopause, and the social impact of building a solution that meets a real and growing need.
Benefits
Opportunity to join the founding team of an early-stage company, with direct impact on key product and technology decisions.
Chance to build the architecture, stack, technical standards, and future engineering team from scratch.
Build with the backing of two leading venture builders, with strategic support and ecosystem synergies.
Active participation in building and scaling a purpose-driven company in a space with real, long-term impact.
